Tora Shotokan Karate Club (originally Chingford Tora SKC) was founded by the Ives family in March 2004 and is affiliated to the Karate Union of Great Britain (KUGB) the biggest single-style Shotokan Karate association in the UK.
We cater for all ages and abilities from infants (recommended minimum 10 years of age) to senior citizens. Many of our members are parents that train together with their children.
We encourage hard training and discipline but in a friendly, welcoming environment for all.
Karate training offers many benefits - it improves fitness, flexibility, strength, discipline and concentration. Of course there is also the obvious benefit of learning self-defence skills.

The Ives Family
The Ives family founded Tora SKC and ran the club for its first eleven years. After a three year break they returned in 2018 to lead the club once again! Left to right - Sensei David Ives 4th Dan, Sensei Mike Ives 2nd Dan, Sensei Barbara Ives 3rd Dan, Sensei Steve Ives 2nd Dan, Sensei Tony Ives 4th Dan.
